6 Ways To Find Events During New York Fashion Week Via Social Media: by GINGRCO

During New York Fashion Week (NYFW) many designers from around the world will travel to New York to showcase their latest collections at Fashion Week throughout the city. Fashion shows and presentations that are listed on the main NYFW Calendar usually take place at the main venues which are Spring Studios and Pier 59 Studios. However, NYFW is a time when countless brands host events, pop-ups, panel discussions and even have parties.

Simply searching “NYFW” + ( season abbreviation ) + (year) ” into any social media platform will help you find events for that current season. For Example: “FW20CASTINGS” “NYFW20” “NYFWSS20” . Let’s check out the best social media platforms to utilize when you are planning your NYFW trip.

1. Eventbrite: is perfect for finding specific events, volunteer opportunities, castings and even shows/presentations that are free to the public. In addition, networking events such as blogger/influencer brunches, photography meetups, or even parties going on in the city during the time you’re there.

2. Facebook: is a great way to look up groups that are tailored to your specific niche. Type in the search bar “NYFW (current season or year)” and all of the events and groups that are on Facebook will then pop up. Joining a Facebook group is also a great way to network with people in advance, whether it’s through a blogger group, fashion group, or even a photography group, etc. Sometimes designers will put their show dates in Facebook groups and even ask for volunteers while people will also offer to volunteer their services. In 2017, we were introduced to the founders of Fashion Mingle via a group labeled “I AM GOING TO NEW YORK FASHION WEEK”.

3. Instagram: Depending on who you follow once you get into the city will also help with last-minute events. Instagram’s Story feature has become a lifesaver when trying to find out about castings, last-minute shows, after-parties and areas of the city to avoid due to traffic.

4. Twitter: Just like Instagram, depending on the people you follow, it will depend on how quickly you will find out about a show and whether or not an event is worth stopping by. Twitter is a great tool to use to network in advance with people before getting into the city which can even lead to friendships.

5. Youtube: Now YouTube is one of those platforms that will help you prepare in advance on things to anticipate during NYFW. Watching NYFW Vlogs uploads and “How To Go To NYFW” videos can definitely help you get a better reality of what to expect during NYFW from the perspectives of models, fashion students, influencers, celebrities, and more.

6. TIKTOK: Last but not least TikTok. While TikTok started to become more popular during the quarantine era of the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is still new in the space of NYFW. After 2022, we can anticipate seeing more opportunities present themselves on TikTok. However, with that being said many content creators will still be posting their fashion week advantages on TikTok. If you are planning on attending, Consider using TikTok as a platform to network with others!

How To Request Tickets in 2022 For New York Fashion Week Runway Shows by GINGRCO

There are many ways one can request a ticket to attend a show or presentation during NYFW, which we discuss in detail within our NYFW Guide. However, the most effective way to request a ticket is to contact the designer’s Public Relations (PR) Team directly. PR Teams are responsible for the guest list, seating assignments and much more.

It’s a good rule of thumb to email no more than three weeks out to the show date and then follow up once again a week before when it gets closer to the show. Doing so will ensure your message doesn’t get missed within someone's inbox.  Some designers only work with PR agencies during NYFW, while other designers are represented by PR year round. Here’s how you can find their email addresses:

  1. Designer’s Website or Social Media: Oftentimes designers will have their PR teams information directly on their website or even within their social media accounts. You can utilize social media to send a direct message to the brand requesting for their email to request show tickets.

  2. Google Search the designer’s name and then the words ‘NYFW pr email’ into google. For example: “TOM FORD NYFW PR EMAIL”.

  3. MODEM Online is a website that offers a list of the Public Relations Agencies that represent fashion designers. These lists are typically up to date per season.

Once you find the PR information you will send a very generic email stating who you are, why you’d like to attend the show and the dates you’ll be in town. We have provided an email template for your reference below.

Whenever you are contacting a PR Agency you should anticipate not receiving a reply back. As the weeks and days leading up to NYFW are getting busier and busier, people simply will not have the time to sit down and reply back to every email they receive. Because of this you want to make sure that your email is straight to the point and as seamless as possible for whomever is receiving it. This means all links to your portfolio, website, Instagram, media kits, etc. should be clickable and are directing the reader to the correct location.

Additionally you want to always include your dates or travel, a reliable email address and/or cell phone number for them to contact you on if they have any further questions. By providing this information, you are allowing the Agencies to consider you for other shows that may be taking place during your time of travel. There have been times where we haven’t heard back from an agency but still received tickets for a show; and there have been times where agents have replied back to confirm they received our request and then later on provided us with tickets to the show. While it's advisable to email the PR team directly with your ticket request, that isn’t the only way you could get a ticket for a show.
